Most hamster owners and surprised when their hamster first shows signs of heat, it can look dramatic, confusing or even worrying so I’ve created a little paragraph on how to make sure your hamster will survive the heat this summer. one moment your hamster will be looking completely normal, and then a few seconds later it’ll be lying on its belly and showing signs of heat such as, wet looking fur, sleeping in the open and excessive thirst, here are some of the things you can do at home to keep your hamster happy and cool. start by moving their cage/enclosure to a cooler environment and make sure they have access to fresh cold water 24/7. another thing that could help your fluffball be cool is to put their bathing sand in the fridge for a few hours and feed them fresh veggies while they wait. Ceramic and granite tiles can help as well as a fan, but be careful not to point directly at the enclosure. some new hamster owners put ice in their hamsters water bottles, or even bath their hamster in cold water, this is NOT suitable for hamsters as it can put them into shock and lead to death.
